It Fears

It Fears
James Dinsmore

Mostly hidden, it will reside,
Unknown in the dark, deep inside;
It comes out in troubled sleep,
Only briefly, only to weep.

Disguised in day by a confident smile,
It cowers in fear of the trial;
In panic, fear and disbelief,
It shivers and retches and gnashes its teeth.

Imprisoned in the soul for unknown crimes,
This creature whimpers and whines;
Repenting for he who hides it there,
Who lives as if he has no care.

Preoccupied with work and time,
The keeper can ignore its whine;
But he venture not too far from home,
In the fear that they will be alone.

A close friend might become too wise,
“It’s only the light” that hurts his eyes;
But no witness will be left to tell them,
If only his fears outlive him.

But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him. 1 Samuel 16:14 KJV
